Prior Provincial presides

Priory and community centre blessed

More than 130 people attended the blessing and official opening of the new Rosary Community Centre and Dominican Priory on Sunday 11 march.

The Prior Provincial of the Australian Dominicans, Fr Anthony Walsh OP, presided at the ceremony.

Parish priest Fr Peter Hoang OP welcomed parishioners old and new to the historic event. Pastoral council co-chair Kevin Susai outlined the history of the Dominican presence in WA and the background to the building project.

Pastoral Associate Kaye Shervington paid tribute to a string of people who helped directly or supported their partners in managing the building works and the first few months of moving in to the complex.

Council member and pioneer parishioner Helen Murray hosted the event which included a generous morning tea provided by numerous volunteer teams, bakers and other supporters.

Former parish priests Peter Nguyen OP and David Halstead OP were among the invited guests as was former Prior Provincial Kevin Saunders OP.

Fr Hoang presented Sister Joan Carville with a new chalice as a gift of gratitude to the Dominican Sisters for helping the priests with accommodation while the new premises was built.

The opening followed a concelebrated Mass where seven Dominican priests presided.
