Baby animal farm attracted crows of young people

Open Day Huge Success

Doubleview Parish

The organisers of the  Parish’s first Open Day were delighted with its success. Event co-ordinator Helen Murray, a member of the local Pastoral Council, said the outcome was extremely pleasing. More than 300 people are estimated to have attended the event. The level of participation spanned all age groups.

Helen said many people commented favourably on the wide range of activities and enterprises undertaken in the parish, some of which were not previously well known. New volunteers were enlisted for numerous groups and ministries.

As a result of generous donations, five gourmet hampers and ten other prizes were raffled on the day and various door prizes awarded.

Parish Priest Fr Peter Nguyen OP opened the event, reminding the crowd of the parable of the loaves and fishes with its powerful lesson about sharing and relationship formation. The day featured food stalls, information desks, music, morning tea and coffee, children’s activities and a baby animal farm. The tone of the event centred on fellowship, friendship and family fun. It was blessed by fine winter sunshine
One highlight was the unveiling of a series of 27 photographic “mini-murals” depicting a wide range of aspects of parish life.
